There are lots of ways to support for greater equity and inclusion on our stages. You can donate money to a local, grassroots organization. You can join a protest, if you feel you can do so safely. You can educate yourself and, if you are white, talk to other white people about racial justice and equity. But one of the most direct and sustainable ways to support the Black community is to shop at Black-owned businesses, many of which have also been disproportionally affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Here at Black Theatre Matters, we’ve created a directory of over 70 Black Theatre-related groups you can support in six different categories: producing companies, presenting organizations, ensembles, play festivals, writers’ groups and solo artists. We acknowledge that this list is far from complete, but we will continue to update and add more national and international organizations moving forward.
