Sarasota’s Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe announced a $6 million capital campaign to revise its two-theater complex over the next few years, adding space for educational programs. This comes only three years after the 17-year-old company purchased two warehouse buildings in a foreclosure auction, including the historic 1926 Binz Building, north of downtown Sarasota, as a permanent home for the theater company.
The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe had been nomadic for 14-year-old company now has a permanent home. Executive Director Christine Jennings said the theater paid $450,000 for the two-acre site at the auction on March 26, 2013.
