GLEE’s Amber Riley wins 2017 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical

American actress Amber Riley, best known for her performances on the FOX television show GLEE, won Best Actress in a Musical this past Sunday at the 2017 Olivier Awards for role as Effie in hit musical DREAMGIRLS. She beat out stiff competition to capture the honor. Also nominated in that category were Glenn Close for SUNSET BOULEVARD, Debbie Chazen, Sophie-Louise Dann, Michele Dotrice, Claire Machin, Claire Moore and Joanna Riding for THE GIRLS, and Sheridan Smith for FUNNY GIRL.

The Olivier Awards are Great Britain’s version of the Tonys covering commerical theatre in the West End of London. The awards are named for legendary English actor Lawrence Olivier. This is her first win at the Oliviers.
